Four security personnel, including two Uttar Pradesh Police personnel and two members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have been arrested after a woman from Haryana alleged that she was sexually assaulted at a farmhouse in Amroha district.
The alleged incident took place in the Hasanpur area on the night of September 22. The accused include a UP Police sub-inspector and head constable posted at Hasanpur police station, along with a CRPF inspector and head constable.
According to Amroha police, the 24-year-old woman is from Fatehabad in Haryana. She told police that she had travelled to Uttar Pradesh after being invited to visit religious places.
The four accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody, while the investigation into the allegations is continuing.
Woman allegedly invited for religious visit
Police said the woman was contacted by a female acquaintance on September 20. She was allegedly asked to meet a CRPF personnel named Mohit and travel to Amroha for a visit to religious places.
The woman met Mohit in Sonipat on September 21, according to the police account. They then travelled to Meerut, where CRPF head constable Lalaram Yadav allegedly joined them.
On the evening of September 22, the group travelled towards Hasanpur. During the journey, they allegedly picked up UP Police sub-inspector Sanjay Tomar.
The woman was subsequently taken to a farmhouse located along the Atrasi-Hasanpur road, where two rooms were reportedly rented.
Woman alleges sexual assault at farmhouse
According to the woman’s complaint, UP Police head constable Pramod arranged food and alcohol at the farmhouse.
She alleged that Mohit, Lalaram Yadav and Sanjay Tomar sexually assaulted her one after another.
The woman further alleged that Pramod later entered the room and attempted to sexually assault her. She told police that she managed to push him out and lock herself inside.
She then searched online for a police helpline number and contacted authorities.
Police received the information at around 6 am on September 23. Teams from Hasanpur and Rajabpur police stations reached the farmhouse and took the woman to safety. The four accused were subsequently arrested.
FIR registered under BNS
Police registered an FIR based on the woman’s complaint under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita dealing with abduction or inducement and gangrape.
Amroha Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav said the four accused were arrested and sent to judicial custody.
The UP Police sub-inspector has also been suspended, and departmental proceedings have been initiated against him.
A report has been sent to senior CRPF authorities regarding the two CRPF personnel, with police recommending disciplinary action.
Farmhouse reportedly linked to Uttarakhand MLA
Police are also examining the farmhouse where the alleged incident took place.
Hasanpur police officials said the property is reportedly associated with an independent MLA from Uttarakhand. The farmhouse manager has been questioned as part of the investigation.
Police are looking into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s visit, the events at the farmhouse and the sequence leading to her contacting the authorities.
The reported ownership or association of the property does not by itself establish any involvement of the MLA in the alleged crime.
Akhilesh Yadav demands action
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has reacted to the case and criticised the alleged involvement of police and CRPF personnel.
Yadav described the incident as a “stain” on the police force and called for strict action against those accused.
His remarks were political criticism of the incident and the administration. The criminal allegations against the four arrested personnel will be determined through the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings.
The four accused remain in judicial custody as police continue to investigate the woman’s allegations.
