Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh appear to have ended their recent public dispute over Patanjali products after the two met and discussed the matter.
The disagreement had intensified after Singh questioned the quality of Patanjali ghee and made several critical remarks about Ramdev and the company. Patanjali Foods later filed a ₹50-crore defamation case against the former MP over his statements.
Ramdev spoke about his meeting with Singh during a press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday. He said the two had spoken directly and that the confusion surrounding the issue had been cleared.
Ramdev said people can sometimes form opinions based on information they hear from others and claimed that Singh had also developed a misunderstanding in this way.
“People tend to go by hearsay. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had also developed a misunderstanding because of hearsay. Today, he has put an end to the entire matter. I thank him for this,” Ramdev said.
He also thanked those who helped bring the two sides together.
Ramdev defends Patanjali products
The Patanjali founder also responded to questions about the allegations surrounding the company’s ghee and medicines.
Ramdev rejected the claims that Patanjali products were fake or defective and said none of the company’s products had been banned.
“It should be clear that neither Patanjali’s cow ghee nor any of its medicines are fake,” Ramdev said.
He further said he had given Singh two containers of ghee during the dispute, with one meant for consumption and the other for laboratory testing.
Ramdev also maintained that the allegations against Patanjali were based on information Singh had received from others rather than on direct verification.
What started the Patanjali dispute?
The disagreement escalated earlier this month after Singh publicly questioned the quality and pricing of Patanjali ghee during an event in Uttar Pradesh.
Singh made strong allegations against Ramdev and Patanjali and questioned how the company could sell ghee at its stated prices. He also raised broader concerns about adulteration in food products.
Patanjali Foods responded by initiating a ₹50-crore defamation case against Singh. Reports said the legal dispute was being heard in the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Even after the legal action, Singh continued to criticise Ramdev and said he was prepared to face the case. Recent reports quoted him as saying that he would face the legal proceedings rather than withdraw his allegations.
Meeting changes tone of dispute
The latest meeting has now changed the tone of the dispute, with Ramdev saying that the misunderstanding between the two has been resolved.
However, the public disagreement had only recently escalated, including the ₹50-crore defamation proceedings filed by Patanjali Foods. The latest statements from Ramdev indicate that the personal disagreement between the two has been put to rest, while the legal status of the defamation case remains a separate matter.
The development comes after days of sharp statements from both sides over Patanjali ghee and other products.
