The Bharatiya Janata Party has carried out a major organisational reshuffle, announcing new in-charges and co-in-charges for all 28 states and eight Union Territories.
The appointments were approved by BJP national president Nitin Nabin and take effect immediately. The changes give several senior leaders responsibility for more than one state, while new organisational teams have also been created for several states.
Former Union minister and BJP national general secretary Smriti Irani has been given charge of both Chhattisgarh and Haryana. Harish Dwivedi will handle Bihar as well as Karnataka, while Ram Madhav has been assigned Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand.
Sunil Bansal will oversee Telangana and West Bengal. Satish Poonia has been given responsibility for Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. Anil Antony has been appointed in-charge of Nagaland and will also serve as co-in-charge for Goa.
Vinod Tawde gets Uttar Pradesh responsibility
BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde has been appointed in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, a key organisational assignment ahead of the state’s 2027 Assembly election.
Tawde will work with Jagdish Patel, Medha Kulkarni, Pradeep Varma and Anant Ojha, who have been named co-in-charges for the state.
In Maharashtra, BJP national vice president Baijayant Jay Panda has been appointed state in-charge. Amit Malviya, Sadanand Shet Tanawade and Kamaljeet Sehrawat will assist him as co-in-charges.
Rajasthan will be handled by Sanjay Bhatia, with Kavita Patidar and Kuljeet Chahal as co-in-charges. Delhi will have Vinay Sahasrabuddhe as in-charge, assisted by Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and Darshanaben Jardosh.

Maharashtra gets three co-in-charges
The BJP’s Maharashtra organisation will now operate under Baijayant Jay Panda as state in-charge.
He will be supported by Amit Malviya, Sadanand Shet Tanawade and Kamaljeet Sehrawat. The appointment comes as part of the wider organisational changes announced by Nitin Nabin.
Focus on states going to polls
The reshuffle also changes the BJP’s organisational teams in states scheduled for Assembly elections in 2027, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, Manipur, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
The appointments place experienced party leaders in charge of these state units as the BJP prepares its organisation for the next round of state-level electoral activity.
The latest reshuffle follows the BJP’s broader organisational changes under Nitin Nabin. In August, the party had announced a new national team in which Smriti Irani was appointed national general secretary and Ram Madhav was named national vice president, while Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal continued as national general secretaries.
The new state-level appointments are aimed at putting the party’s organisational structure in place across all states and Union Territories, with the new assignments coming into force immediately.
