Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and four members of his family have received notices from the Delhi Election Commission during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Kejriwal, his wife Sunita Kejriwal, father Gobind Ram Kejriwal, mother Gita Devi and 25-year-old son Pulkit Kejriwal are among voters whose records have been listed under the “Unmapped with Last SIR” category.
Five Members of Kejriwal Family Get Notices
The notices were issued as part of the verification process being carried out during the revision of Delhi’s electoral rolls.
The five family members are among 110 people listed in a particular segment of Assembly Constituency 40, which covers the New Delhi constituency.
The “Unmapped with Last SIR” classification indicates that the electoral records could not be matched with the previous SIR database and have therefore been flagged for verification.
What Does the SIR Notice Mean?
Receiving a notice does not automatically mean that a voter has been declared ineligible.
The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer has clarified that the draft electoral roll and the notice process are part of an ongoing verification exercise. Voters can provide the required documents and participate in the claims and objections process. The CEO has also said that non-inclusion in the draft roll by itself does not constitute a final determination of ineligibility.
Delhi SIR Notices Issued to Millions
The notices to the Kejriwal family come amid a much larger verification exercise in Delhi.
According to reports, around 33.13 lakh electors have received notices under categories including “No Mapping” and “Logical Discrepancies”. The issue has also reached the Supreme Court, which is scheduled to hear a plea seeking greater transparency over the reasons and criteria behind the notices.
The Delhi draft electoral roll published on August 31 also left out around 47.6 lakh names, although the Election Commission has clarified that the draft stage does not by itself determine a person’s final eligibility to remain on the electoral roll.
Claims and Objections Process Underway
The SIR process allows voters whose names or records have been flagged to submit documents and raise objections or claims through the prescribed procedure.
The development involving Kejriwal and his family has drawn attention because all five were listed in the same “Unmapped with Last SIR” category in the New Delhi constituency.
The notices are part of the ongoing verification process, and the final status of the voters will depend on the prescribed examination of their records and documents.
