A BJP-nominated corporator and a relative of lawyer Priyanka Satra, who died in a road accident in Mumbai’s Malad West, have approached Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking a fair and stringent investigation into the case.
BJP corporator Pravin Chheda and Satra’s family representative recently met Fadnavis and submitted a written representation demanding that authorities establish the circumstances surrounding her death and take action against anyone found responsible.
The delegation also raised allegations of preferential treatment being extended to the accused while in police custody.
According to Chheda, the meeting with the Chief Minister took place a few days ago. He said the family has sought a sensitive investigation that examines every aspect of the case without shielding anyone or wrongly implicating an innocent person.
Chheda said Fadnavis assured them that he would examine the matter and take appropriate action.
“At this difficult time, the family is looking towards the authorities for truth, accountability and justice,” Chheda said, stressing that the investigation should be conducted without fear or favour.
Family Raises Questions Over Custody of Accused
Satra’s relatives and Chheda have also raised concerns over the treatment allegedly given to accused Krishna Chamankar, 65, during his custody.
They alleged that Chamankar was permitted to use a mobile phone while at the police station and was treated differently from what would ordinarily be expected of an accused in custody.
Chheda further alleged that a woman police officer from Versova Police Station arrived at the station at around 1.20 am and took Chamankar out of the lock-up on the stated grounds of a medical examination.
According to the allegation, Chamankar was subsequently seated in an air-conditioned room at the rear of the police station.
These claims have become a major point of contention for Satra’s family, who have demanded that the authorities examine whether any procedural violations or preferential treatment took place.
Priyanka Satra Died in Malad Crash
The case relates to the August 30 accident in Malad West in which Satra, 35, was killed.
Satra was travelling as a pillion rider with her husband, Mayank, when their motorcycle was allegedly struck by an MG Windsor. The collision was followed by the car hitting three autorickshaws.
Mayank and several people travelling in or operating the autorickshaws were injured in the crash.
The incident subsequently triggered concerns among Satra’s family and friends, who have questioned the handling of the case and demanded accountability.
With the matter now brought before the Chief Minister, the family is hoping for a detailed investigation into both the accident and the allegations surrounding the accused’s custody.
The family has maintained that its primary demand is justice for Priyanka Satra and accountability for anyone found to have been responsible for the accident or any subsequent lapse in the handling of the case.
