An IndiGo flight operating from Navi Mumbai to Srinagar was involved in an accident at Srinagar International Airport on Friday after the aircraft collided with a Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) pole while being positioned at its designated bay.
The aircraft, operating as IndiGo flight 6E 225 with registration VT-NOG, arrived from Navi Mumbai. The incident occurred at around 9.02 am while the aircraft was being positioned at Bay No. 06.
According to airport officials, the aircraft struck the VDGS pole during the positioning process. A detailed inquiry has been ordered to determine exactly how the incident occurred.
Airport authorities confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safe and that no injuries were reported.
The passengers and crew were safely deboarded from the aircraft using manual stairs.
“The exact cause will be ascertained following the completion of the inquiry, and no conclusion regarding the cause is being drawn at this stage,” airport authorities said.
The authorities also said that airport operations remained normal following the incident, with flight arrivals and departures continuing according to schedule.
Second IndiGo Incident Within 24 Hours
The Srinagar incident came less than a day after another IndiGo flight faced an emergency diversion during its journey from Doha to Bengaluru.
Flight 6E 1302, operated by an Airbus A321, was diverted to Muscat after one of the pilots fell ill and required urgent medical attention.
IndiGo said the crew member was attended to by a medical team after the aircraft landed in Muscat and was later reported to be feeling better.
The airline arranged an alternative aircraft and a new crew to continue the flight to Bengaluru.
While both incidents involved IndiGo flights within roughly 24 hours, they occurred under different circumstances and there was no indication that the two events were connected.
