Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has received a death threat through an unsigned letter delivered by post, his office said on Tuesday.
According to officials, the unidentified sender claimed that the Union Minister would be targeted and killed by “hardcore terrorists”. The threat has raised concerns over the security of Paswan, who currently has Z-category protection from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The matter was formally brought to the attention of Union Home Secretary Alok Kumar through a communication from the minister’s office.
In the letter, Alok Kumar, Additional Private Secretary to Chirag Paswan, highlighted the seriousness of the threat and sought urgent attention from the Home Ministry.
“I am directed to bring to your urgent attention a matter of grave concern regarding the personal security of the Hon’ble Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, who is currently under Z-category security cover provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India,” the communication stated.
The identity of the person who sent the letter is not known at present. Authorities are expected to examine the communication and investigate the source of the threat.
Paswan serves as the Union Minister for Food Processing Industries and is the president of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).
The development comes amid heightened focus on the security of senior political leaders holding high-level government positions. Further details about the investigation and any additional security measures for the minister are awaited.
