The Delhi government has launched an inquiry into a school following concerns over whether the institution is operating in accordance with mandatory recognition and education norms.
Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said officials are examining the school’s documents and checking its compliance with the prescribed requirements.
Sood warned that the government would take action if the investigation establishes any violation or irregularity. In serious cases, authorities may also consider shutting down the institution under the provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act and other applicable laws.
“If any violation, irregularity, or non-compliance with the prescribed norms is established, strict action will be taken under the applicable provisions of the RTE Act and other relevant laws. Based on the findings of the inquiry, appropriate action, including closure of the school, may also be taken in accordance with the law,” Sood said in a post on X.
The minister further made it clear that child safety would remain a priority for the Delhi government.
“We will not compromise on the safety, security and well-being of children,” he said, adding that no educational institution would be allowed to function in breach of legal requirements.
Sood also said that any violations identified during the inquiry would result in “firm and decisive action”.
The school concerned had not issued an immediate response to the allegations at the time of the report.
Delhi Government Steps Up Child Safety Measures
The development comes amid increased scrutiny of child safety in schools and educational institutions across Delhi following recent incidents involving children.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed authorities to take strict measures to strengthen child protection in the capital.
The government’s focus on safety follows an alleged incident involving a three-year-old nursery student who was reportedly sexually abused by a school cab driver.
The Delhi government has also expressed concern over the alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl in a sleeper bus in the Delhi-NCR region. Authorities are examining measures to improve passenger safety, including the possibility of GPS-based monitoring of buses.
Meanwhile, Sood said an impartial inquiry is also underway into the death of a student at a school in East Vinod Nagar. The teacher concerned has been transferred pending the investigation, with the government saying the move is intended to ensure a fair and transparent probe.
The latest actions underline the Delhi government’s attempt to tighten oversight of schools and strengthen safeguards for children.
