The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing a dedicated outreach strategy aimed at connecting with young Indians, particularly members of Generation Z, with the party deciding to constitute a special team for the initiative, according to sources.
The decision was reportedly taken during a high-level meeting chaired by BJP national president Nitin Nabin with the party’s newly appointed national office-bearers at its headquarters in New Delhi. According to India TV’s report, youth outreach and election preparedness featured prominently in the discussions.
Who will be part of BJP’s Gen Z outreach team?
Sources said the proposed team will include Nitin Nabin and former Union minister Smriti Irani, who was recently appointed BJP national general secretary.
BJP leaders Vinod Tawde, Harsh Sanghavi and OP Choudhary are also expected to be part of the initiative, along with other senior party leaders.
The group is expected to organise programmes specifically designed to engage with young people and understand their concerns, aspirations and expectations.
According to sources cited by India TV, the BJP’s approach will involve direct interaction with young voters, rather than limiting the outreach to conventional political campaigns. The team is also expected to explain the party’s policies and ideology while gathering feedback from the younger generation.
BJP turns focus to Gen Z
The move comes at a time when political parties are increasingly looking at Gen Z as an important demographic.
The proposed outreach is expected to focus on understanding issues that matter to younger Indians and finding ways to communicate the BJP’s political message through platforms and programmes that appeal to them.
The initiative could also become an important part of the BJP’s wider electoral strategy as the party seeks to strengthen its connection with first-time and younger voters.
BJP passes resolution on Vande Mataram
The meeting also saw the BJP adopt a resolution concerning Vande Mataram, calling for its legacy to be honoured and protected.
The party criticised the Congress’ decision to limit the singing of the national song to its first two stanzas at party programmes and events.
In its resolution, the BJP described Vande Mataram as “an expression of reverence for Bharat Mata, a mantra of the freedom struggle and an immortal symbol of India’s national consciousness.”
The BJP argued that the debate over the national song goes beyond political differences and is connected to India’s freedom struggle and national history.
The party also accused the Congress of attempting to reduce the significance of Vande Mataram for electoral considerations and said there would be no compromise on what it described as the song’s historical legacy.
BJP plans awareness campaign for youth
The BJP resolution also proposed special awareness initiatives targeting young people to educate them about the history and significance of Vande Mataram.
“The Bharatiya Janata Party appeals to the people of India to remember that the words of Vande Mataram were once so powerful that an empire was shaken by them. The British tried to suppress these words because they awakened a spirit of resistance. Generations of Indians embraced them as a mantra of freedom, sacrifice and national pride,” the resolution stated.
The youth outreach initiative and the proposed awareness campaigns indicate that the BJP is seeking to combine political engagement with issues of national identity as it attempts to deepen its connection with the younger generation.
