Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Gunj’ programme in Pune has received police permission for August 22, but organisers will have to follow 30 conditions laid down by the authorities.
The programme will take place at the SSPMS College ground near RTO Chowk between 4:30 pm and 9:30 pm. Police expect between 8,000 and 10,000 people to attend the event.
The programme is being organised especially for female students and is expected to focus on issues such as education, women’s safety, equality, competitive examinations and career opportunities.
What Are The 30 Conditions?
The police permission places responsibility on the organisers for maintaining law and order throughout the programme.
One of the key conditions is that organisers must ensure that no religious sentiments are hurt during the event. The display of objectionable photographs, images, banners or other material has also been prohibited.
Organisers have also been instructed to make proper arrangements for:
- Security at the venue
- Separate facilities for men and women
- Adequate entry and exit points
- Drinking water
- Toilets
- Fire-safety equipment
- Parking
- Private security guards
- Women security personnel
- Volunteers, including women volunteers
- Operational CCTV cameras
No Drones, Noise Rules To Be Followed
Police have also prohibited the use of drones for photography at the venue.
The organisers must comply with the Supreme Court’s directions on noise levels and follow the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, as well as relevant provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
Emergency routes for police, ambulances and fire services must remain clear throughout the programme.
Permission Can Be Cancelled
The permission is also subject to a no-objection certificate from the traffic department.
Police have made it clear that the permission can be withdrawn if any illegal activity or situation affecting public order occurs. The permission could also be cancelled if a dispute develops regarding the venue.
Congress leader Mohan Joshi, vice-president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, said the party would follow all the conditions imposed by the police.
With the permission now granted, Rahul Gandhi’s Pune programme is scheduled to go ahead on August 22, subject to compliance with all the conditions.
