ECI Changes Maharashtra, Delhi SIR Schedule: Final Voter Lists To Be Released On November 4

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has changed the timeline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Maharashtra and Delhi, pushing the publication of the final voter lists to November 4, 2026.

The revised schedule gives election officials and voters additional time to complete the verification and claims process.

Maharashtra SIR: Draft Voter List On August 31

In Maharashtra, the door-to-door collection of voter information and enumeration forms was completed on August 17. Under the new schedule, the Election Commission will publish the draft electoral roll on August 31.

Voters will then have until September 30 to check their details and submit claims or objections if their names are missing or information is incorrect.

The process of examining these claims and objections will continue until October 29. The final electoral roll will be released on November 4, replacing the earlier October 7 deadline.

The reorganisation of polling stations has also been extended. Officials will now complete this exercise by August 24.

Delhi Voter List Schedule Also Changed

Delhi will follow a similar revised timeline.

The draft electoral roll will be published on August 31, instead of August 24. Voters will be given time to raise claims and objections, while officials will examine and dispose of them by October 29.

The final voter list for Delhi will also be published on November 4. Earlier, the Election Commission had planned to release it on October 27.

The door-to-door verification exercise in Delhi was completed on August 17.

What Is SIR And Why Is It Important?

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is an Election Commission exercise aimed at checking and updating electoral rolls. Officials verify voter information through field-level checks and enumeration exercises.

The process is intended to identify errors and ensure that eligible voters are correctly included in the electoral rolls.

For voters, the important step will be to check the draft electoral roll once it is published on August 31. Anyone who finds that their name is missing or details are incorrect can submit a claim or objection within the prescribed period.

The revised schedule means voters in Maharashtra and Delhi now have additional time to complete this process before the final lists are published.
