The Jharkhand CID has arrested the wife and brother of alleged exam scam mastermind Abhay Tiwari in connection with a wider investigation into suspected irregularities in government recruitment examinations.
Both were questioned by investigators in Giridih on Tuesday before being taken to Ranchi for further investigation. The CID suspects that the two may have benefited from irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
Abhay Tiwari is already in jail in connection with the case.
Who Are Abhay Tiwari’s Wife And Brother?
Tiwari’s brother, Akshay Tiwari, is already working as a government employee. Investigators are examining his success in competitive examinations, including the preliminary examination of the 14th JPSC recruitment process.
Tiwari’s wife, who works as an Assistant Section Officer (ASO), has also been arrested as part of the investigation.
The CID brought both suspects to Ranchi after questioning them in Giridih.
CID Questions JSSC Secretary
The investigation has also reached the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission.
CID officials questioned JSSC Secretary Sudhir Gupta for several hours on Tuesday. His questioning came a day after investigators searched the commission’s office as part of the examination fraud investigation.
Investigators are reportedly examining information and material collected during the search.
The CID also questioned Abhay Tiwari’s brother and wife while trying to understand whether there was any connection between their examination results and the alleged recruitment racket.
Abhay Tiwari Cleared Multiple Competitive Exams
The investigation into Abhay Tiwari has attracted attention because officials say he managed to qualify for around 12 competitive examinations over a period of 13 years.
Tiwari, who was working as a Block Supply Officer (BSO) in Poriyahat, Godda, was arrested by the CID on July 22.
According to investigators, his examination record includes several government recruitment tests.
These reportedly include the 2018 Police Sub-Inspector examination, 2013 Navy SAR examination, 2014 BARC Assistant examination, IRB Constable examination, 2018 CRPF Head Constable examination and 2014 Northern Coalfields examination.
He also reportedly cleared examinations for PGT Teacher, JSSC CGL, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Forest Range Officer and Food Safety Officer.
CID Checks Old Examination Records
The CID is now examining Tiwari’s complete examination history.
Investigators are checking his application forms, academic documents, examination records, evaluation sheets and information provided by agencies that conducted the various recruitment tests.
The agency is also trying to determine whether the same method was used to help other candidates qualify.
During questioning, Tiwari allegedly told investigators that different “rate charts” were used for candidates who wanted to secure success in various competitive examinations.
According to the information being investigated, the alleged amounts ranged from ₹2 lakh to ₹70 lakh, depending on the examination.
These claims are part of the ongoing investigation and have not been established by a court.
JSSC CGL Exam Cancelled
The investigation comes amid growing controversy surrounding recruitment examinations in Jharkhand.
The state government announced on Monday that the JSSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination would be cancelled.
The government also announced the cancellation of examinations conducted by outsourced agency TSR Data Processing Pvt Ltd (TDPL) and the results published through the agency.
The cancellation was among the major demands raised by students protesting over alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.
The CID investigation is continuing, with officials examining examination records and questioning people connected with the alleged recruitment fraud.
