Uttar Pradesh has secured a strong position in BJP president Nitin Nabin’s newly announced national organisational team, with eight leaders from the state being given important responsibilities.
The appointments give Uttar Pradesh representation across the BJP’s senior organisational structure, including the posts of national vice presidents, general secretaries and national secretaries. Two UP leaders have also been given charge of the party’s OBC Morcha and Minority Morcha.
Eight UP Leaders Get Key Responsibilities
The new appointments include:
- Amar Pal Maurya – National President, OBC Morcha
- Kunwar Basit Ali – National President, Minority Morcha
- Smriti Irani – National General Secretary
- Harish Dwivedi – National General Secretary
- Rekha Verma – National Vice President
- Prof. Tariq Mansoor – National Vice President
- Dr Bhola Singh – National Secretary
- Sangeeta Yadav – National Secretary
The appointments place leaders from Uttar Pradesh in several important layers of the BJP’s national organisation.
OBC And Minority Outreach Gets Major Focus
The decision to appoint UP leaders to head both the OBC Morcha and Minority Morcha is significant.
Amar Pal Maurya has been given responsibility for the OBC Morcha, while former UP Minority Morcha chief Kunwar Basit Ali will now lead the party’s Minority Morcha at the national level.
The appointments indicate the BJP’s continued focus on expanding and consolidating its support among different caste and community groups.
Smriti Irani Returns To Key Organisational Role
Former Union minister Smriti Irani has been appointed national general secretary.
Irani represented Amethi in the Lok Sabha between 2019 and 2024 and became one of the BJP’s most prominent national leaders during her tenure as a Union minister.
Her return to a senior organisational position comes as the BJP prepares for important electoral challenges in the Hindi heartland.
Former Basti MP Harish Dwivedi has also been appointed national general secretary, giving Uttar Pradesh two representatives at this level.
Rekha Verma And Tariq Mansoor Become Vice Presidents
The new team also includes two national vice presidents from Uttar Pradesh — Rekha Verma and Prof. Tariq Mansoor.
Verma, a former BJP MP from Dhaurahra, has been retained in a senior organisational role.
Mansoor, the former Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, has also been given the national vice-president post.
His appointment is particularly notable because of the BJP’s efforts to strengthen its outreach among Muslim voters.
Two More Leaders Named National Secretaries
Dr Bhola Singh and Sangeeta Yadav have been appointed national secretaries.
With these appointments, six Uttar Pradesh leaders are part of the BJP’s core national office-bearer structure, while the two Morcha presidents take the total representation from the state to eight.
Why Uttar Pradesh Matters For BJP
Uttar Pradesh is politically crucial for the BJP because of its size and its importance in national elections.
The party’s decision to give eight leaders from the state important national responsibilities is therefore significant. It also comes ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, making the composition of the new national team particularly important for the state.
The appointments of leaders associated with OBC and minority outreach suggest that the BJP is looking to maintain its broader social coalition in the state while strengthening its organisational network.
What The New Team Signals
The BJP’s latest organisational changes bring Uttar Pradesh more closely into the party’s national structure while placing particular emphasis on OBC, minority and broader social outreach.
With senior leaders such as Smriti Irani returning to a prominent organisational role and multiple UP leaders receiving national responsibilities, the new appointments are likely to have an important role in shaping the BJP’s strategy ahead of the next major electoral battles.
