Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has stepped up his criticism of the BJP’s Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, questioning why the initiative was not launched from the RSS headquarters in Nagpur.
Kharge said his remarks were aimed at raising what he described as a straightforward question about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s historical relationship with the national flag.
Speaking about the issue, Kharge said: “What have I said? Yesterday, in the Parliament and outside the Parliament, BJP is doing Har Ghar Tiranga Rally…My request to the PM was that this exercise should be launched from the RSS Headquarters because for more than 52 years, they have never hoisted the flag. I have asked a very simple question. They have done thousands of marches across the country. Show me one march where RSS people in their full uniform have held the Tricolour. For them which is more important – the Tricolour or their dhwaja?…”
Kharge questions RSS participation in Tiranga rallies
Kharge’s remarks come as the BJP and its leaders participate in programmes linked to the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, which encourages citizens to display the national flag as part of Independence Day celebrations.
The Karnataka minister questioned whether the RSS had carried the Tricolour during its large-scale marches and public programmes, contrasting it with the organisation’s own flag.
The central question raised by Kharge was whether the national flag or the RSS flag holds greater significance for the organisation.
He argued that his demand for the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign to begin at the RSS headquarters was intended to put that question directly before the organisation.
The BJP has yet to respond to Kharge’s specific remarks in the statement provided.
