NCP leader Zeeshan Siddique has received a fresh death threat, allegedly from absconding gangster Zeeshan Akhtar, prompting him to alert Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti.
The threatening message was reportedly sent as an audio recording directly to Siddique’s personal mobile number on Wednesday. Siddique is currently outside India, but informed Maharashtra authorities after receiving the alleged threat.
Threat sent to Siddique’s personal number
Siddique reportedly told India TV that the audio message reached his personal number despite him being abroad. He said he had brought the matter to the attention of the Maharashtra chief minister and the Mumbai police commissioner.
Police have acknowledged receiving information about the alleged threat. However, a senior Mumbai Police official said Siddique had not yet submitted a formal complaint over the latest message.
Investigators are expected to examine the audio to establish its authenticity and identify its source.
Second threat in a week
The latest incident comes just days after another alleged threat linked to the same name surfaced on social media.
In the new audio, the caller allegedly identified himself as Zeeshan Akhtar of the Rohit Godara gang and threatened to kill Siddique. The caller reportedly claimed that Siddique had been on his target list since the killing of his father, former NCP leader Baba Siddique.
The speaker also allegedly warned Siddique against seeking help from his sister and challenged him to approach the police.
The authenticity of the claims made in the recording has not been established.
Earlier complaint triggered police inquiry
The latest development follows a complaint filed by Arshia Siddique, Zeeshan Siddique’s sister, after another audio clip circulated online last week.
The clip was reportedly uploaded on social media by an account claiming to belong to Zeeshan Akhtar. Police said the recording had not been sent directly to Arshia.
Following her complaint, Bandra Police registered a non-cognisable (NC) offence and began examining the matter.
Officials are still verifying whether the audio recording is genuine and whether it was actually connected to the person identified in the clip.
The fresh threat has now triggered another round of scrutiny as Mumbai Police works to establish the source of the recording and assess the seriousness of the alleged threat.
