Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has finalised the portfolios for members of his Cabinet, bringing clarity to the responsibilities of the state’s ministers.
Shivakumar has retained several key departments, including Finance, while Housing has been assigned to Zameer Ahmed Khan.
Who Gets What?
The Chief Minister will continue to handle the Finance portfolio along with Cabinet Affairs, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Intelligence, Information, Law, Justice and Human Rights, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislation. He will also retain Agriculture Marketing, Town and Country Planning, and urban local bodies falling under the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) and Bengaluru Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) areas, apart from portfolios that have not been allocated.
Here is the portfolio-wise allocation:
- Zameer Ahmed Khan: Housing
- Ramalinga Reddy: Forest, Ecology and Environment
- Lakshman Savadi: Co-operation, excluding Agriculture Marketing
- Rudrappa Manappa Lamani: Sugar and Textiles
- K.H. Muniyappa: Social Welfare
- Shivraj Tangadagi: Backward Classes Welfare; Kannada and Culture
- U.T. Khader: Minority Welfare; Haj & Wakf; Health and Family Welfare
- T. Raghumurthy: ST Welfare
- Dr Ajay Singh: Minor Irrigation; Science and Technology
- Cheluvarayaswamy: Major and Medium Irrigation
- Madhu Bangarappa: Primary and Secondary Education
- Basavaraj Raya Reddy: Higher Education
- Shivalinge Gowda: Excise, which was previously under the Finance Department
Shivakumar Retains Key Departments
By keeping Finance and several other important portfolios with himself, Shivakumar will continue to have direct oversight of major administrative, financial and policy-related areas.
The allocation also distributes responsibilities across welfare, education, irrigation, environment, housing and other crucial sectors of the Karnataka government.
The portfolio distribution is expected to allow ministers to focus on their respective departments and advance the government’s administrative priorities.
