Student activist Devendra Mahto has ended his water fast after holding a video conversation with noted innovator and environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk. However, he clarified that the ongoing indefinite hunger strike and Satyagraha movement will continue until the protesters’ demands are addressed.
Sharing the development on social media platform X, Mahto said he had the opportunity to interact directly with Wangchuk, who offered guidance, encouragement and support for the student-led movement.
According to Mahto, Wangchuk advised him to prioritise his health and urged him to take water. Respecting his request, the activist ended his water fast.
“An opportunity to directly communicate via video call with the renowned innovator of the country, Shri Sonam Wangchuk Sir. He provided his invaluable guidance, inspiring thoughts, and encouragement towards our movement. At his insistence, we took water. Additionally, we humbly requested him to visit Ranchi and boost the morale of the protesting students,” Mahto wrote on X.
Despite ending the water fast, Mahto said the broader agitation remains unchanged. He announced that the indefinite hunger strike and Satyagraha would continue as part of the students’ campaign.
The protesters have also invited Sonam Wangchuk to visit Ranchi, expressing hope that his presence would strengthen the morale of students participating in the movement.
