Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin was detained by the Tamil Nadu Police on Tuesday after an FIR was registered against him over a controversial statement made during a speech on the Cauvery water dispute. The remark has triggered a major political controversy, with critics alleging it contained an indirect sexual innuendo that many linked to actor Trisha.
The controversy erupted after Udhayanidhi targeted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during a public address, questioning his handling of the long-standing Cauvery issue.
