Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant on Monday criticised the Maharashtra government over the removal of beneficiaries from the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, alleging that the scheme had been used to influence voters during the elections.
Reacting to the ongoing verification drive, Sawant claimed that a large number of women who had earlier received benefits under the scheme have now been declared ineligible.
“You are absolutely right. You may recall that I had commented on this issue earlier this month as well. Just think about it—lakhs of women’s names have now been removed from the scheme. What happened during the elections? These women voted after being lured by the scheme, and not just them, but their families as well…” Sawant said.
His remarks come amid the Maharashtra government’s verification of beneficiaries under the Ladki Bahin Yojana. The state has maintained that only ineligible beneficiaries are being removed and has assured that eligible women will continue to receive assistance under the welfare scheme.
