‘State Will Bear Treatment Cost’: Sunetra Pawar Visits Warkari Accident Victims After 3 Women Killed

Three Women Killed After Truck Rams Into Warkari Procession

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar on Monday visited the victims injured in the tragic accident in which a truck allegedly ploughed into a Warkari procession, killing three women and leaving several others injured.

The accident has sent shockwaves across the state, with devotees participating in the annual Wari pilgrimage caught in the collision. Following the incident, the injured were rushed to hospital, where several are undergoing treatment.

‘This Is an Extremely Painful and Tragic Incident’

After meeting the injured devotees, Sunetra Pawar described the accident as deeply distressing and expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

“I have just met the women who were injured in the accident. This is an extremely painful and tragic incident. A truck entered the procession, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of three women. I pay my heartfelt tributes to the deceased,” she said.

The Deputy Chief Minister added that while some victims had sustained fractures, others suffered minor injuries and their condition was stable.

“I met the injured victims. Some of them have suffered fractures, while others have sustained minor injuries. The rest are in stable condition,” she said.

Government Assures Free Treatment and ₹4 Lakh Compensation

Sunetra Pawar said she immediately rushed to the hospital after learning about the accident and directed officials to provide the best possible medical care to the injured.

“As soon as I came to know about the incident, I immediately rushed here as I was in the vicinity. I met the police officers and officials from the administration and instructed them to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical care,” she said.

Announcing relief measures, the Deputy Chief Minister said the families of those killed would receive financial assistance under the existing government policy.

“As per the existing Government Resolution (GR), the families of those who lost their lives will be provided an ex gratia compensation of Rs 4 lakh each. The state government will also bear the entire cost of treatment for those who were injured,” Pawar said.

Driver’s Medication Angle Under Investigation

Speaking about the investigation, Sunetra Pawar said preliminary findings suggest the truck driver had consumed medication before the accident, but stressed that the exact cause would be established only after a detailed probe.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver had taken some medication in the morning. All the facts will become clear once the investigation is completed,” she said.

Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
