Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut on Monday appealed to veteran social activist Anna Hazare to extend his support to activist Sonam Wangchuk, saying Hazare has a responsibility to speak up just as he did during the anti-corruption movement over a decade ago.
Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Raut recalled the massive public movement led by Hazare in 2012 and questioned why the veteran activist had remained silent on Wangchuk’s ongoing campaign.
Raut Recalls Anna Hazare’s 2012 Hunger Strike
Drawing a comparison with the anti-corruption agitation, Raut said Anna Hazare had undertaken an 11-day hunger strike in 2012, during which political leaders and government representatives engaged with the movement.”Where is Anna Hazare sitting? Anna Hazare had undertaken an 11-day hunger strike there in 2012, and all of us had gone there. Representatives from the government had come as well. Vilasrao Deshmukh was leading the talks. Now, it is also Anna Hazare’s responsibility, isn’t it, to go to Delhi and support Sonam Wangchuk. This is also a responsibility of Anna Hazare,” Raut said.
Appeal Comes Amid Ongoing Political Debate
Raut’s remarks come amid continuing political discussions surrounding Sonam Wangchuk’s campaign, which has attracted attention from opposition leaders and civil society groups.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader suggested that individuals who had previously led public movements should continue to raise their voices on issues of public concern.
While Anna Hazare has not yet publicly responded to Raut’s appeal, the statement has added a fresh political dimension to the debate surrounding Wangchuk’s movement.
