Indonesia Confers Its Highest Civilian Honour On PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Tuesday conferred the Bintang Adipurna, Indonesia’s highest civilian honour, during his official visit to Jakarta. The prestigious award was presented by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in recognition of Modi’s contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting cooperation between the two nations.
The Bintang Adipurna is Indonesia’s highest state honour and is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions towards the country’s unity, development and prosperity.
Grand Ceremonial Welcome At Presidential Palace
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi received a ceremonial welcome at Istana Merdeka, the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, where he held delegation-level talks with President Prabowo Subianto.
Following the welcome ceremony, Modi signed the official guest book before the two leaders discussed ways to deepen cooperation across a wide range of sectors under the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Taking to X after the reception, Modi wrote, “Thank you for the warm welcome at the Istana Merdeka!”
Visit Aims To Deepen Strategic Partnership
The Ministry of External Affairs described the visit as another milestone in expanding cooperation between India and Indonesia.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Prime Minister @narendramodi was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome at the Istana Merdeka, the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.”
He added, “The visit marks a significant step in advancing the India–Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, opening new avenues for cooperation across priority sectors while reinforcing the deep trust, shared values and enduring friendship that bind the two countries.”
First Bilateral Visit Since Strategic Ties Were Elevated
Before leaving New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi noted that this is his first bilateral visit to Indonesia since the relationship between the two countries was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The visit also follows President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to India as the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations in January 2025.
Indonesia is the first stop of Modi’s three-nation tour, which also includes Australia and New Zealand. According to the Prime Minister, the tour is intended to strengthen India’s Act East Policy, promote the MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Regions) Vision, and reinforce India’s commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
