CM Devendra Fadnavis Announces ₹5 Lakh Aid After Mankhurd House Collapse Kills Six

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced an ex gratia payment of ₹5 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the Mankhurd house collapse, expressing grief over the tragedy that claimed six lives, including five children. The Chief Minister also assured that the state government would extend every possible assistance to the affected families.

The collapse occurred on Sunday night as relentless monsoon rains continued to batter Mumbai, triggering structural damage in several parts of the city.

Six Dead, Including Five Children

The incident took place at Chawl No. 5 in Janta Nagar, behind Hanuman Mandir in Mankhurd, where a portion of a ground-plus-three-storey residential structure collapsed after prolonged heavy rainfall.

According to officials, seven people were trapped beneath the debris. Rescue teams managed to pull them out before rushing them to nearby hospitals.

Five victims were declared dead upon arrival at Shatabdi Hospital, while another injured person later succumbed to injuries at Rajawadi Hospital. One survivor continues to receive treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

The deceased have been identified as Aliya (7), Muskan (14), Nihal (6), Nabiya (2), Munaf (7) and Soni (32).

State Government Announces Financial Assistance

In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, Fadnavis conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and announced financial support of ₹5 lakh for each family of the deceased.

The government also assured that all necessary assistance would be provided to those affected by the tragedy.

Leaders Visit Families

Following the incident, Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde visited Shatabdi Hospital to meet the grieving families and review the situation.

Maharashtra Samajwadi Party President Abu Azmi also visited the hospital to offer condolences and interact with relatives of the victims.

Monsoon Death Toll Rises

The Mankhurd tragedy has further increased Mumbai’s rain-related death toll this monsoon season. Recent weeks have witnessed multiple fatalities due to tree falls, structural collapses and other weather-related incidents as heavy rainfall continues to affect the city.

Authorities have intensified monitoring of vulnerable buildings and urged residents to report signs of structural damage immediately.

Orange Alert Remains In Force

Heavy rain continued across Mumbai on Monday, causing waterlogging in several areas and disrupting daily life.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated locations likely to receive extremely heavy showers over the next 24 hours.

The weather department has also warned of strong winds reaching 60–70 kmph during intense rain spells and advised citizens to avoid flood-prone areas, weakened structures and unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
