‘OBCs Have No Reason to Fear’: Fadnavis Assures Maratha Reservation Decisions Will Stay Within Constitutional Limits

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing concerns related to Maratha reservation while assuring the OBC community that their rights and benefits would remain protected.

Responding to questions on the ongoing debate surrounding Maratha reservation and OBC interests, Fadnavis said the state government has consistently adopted a positive and transparent approach whenever challenges have emerged on the issue.

The Chief Minister stressed that the government is focused on the welfare of every section of society and does not believe in creating divisions between communities. He said efforts are being made to ensure that decisions benefit all groups while maintaining social harmony.

Fadnavis highlighted that several initiatives undertaken by his administration and former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde were aimed at supporting the Maratha community. According to him, the government will continue working in the community’s interest in the future as well.

At the same time, he emphasised that any decision on reservation or related matters must comply with the Constitution and judicial guidelines laid down by the courts.

“Decisions that do not follow legal and constitutional requirements may create headlines, but they cannot survive judicial scrutiny,” Fadnavis said, adding that the government intends to pursue solutions that are legally sustainable.

The Chief Minister also sought to reassure the OBC community, stating that no benefits would be withdrawn from one group to accommodate another. He maintained that policies concerning the Maratha community would be framed in a manner that safeguards OBC interests.
