The Haryana government has ordered a temporary suspension of mobile internet services in parts of Faridabad ahead of a major demolition exercise, citing concerns over public order and security during the operation.
According to an official directive, mobile data services across all network generations, including 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G, have been halted in a designated area of the NIT Zone on May 30. Authorities have also suspended bulk SMS and dongle-based internet services operating through mobile networks for the duration of the restrictions.
The move has been taken as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of misinformation, rumours or any activity that could potentially disturb peace during the demolition drive.
Restrictions Limited to Specific Area
Officials clarified that the suspension applies only within a one-kilometre radius of the identified zone in Faridabad and will remain effective from 12:30 am until 10:00 pm on May 30.
Telecom operators have been directed to implement the restrictions immediately and ensure full compliance with the government order.
Voice Calls and Essential Services Exempted
While mobile internet access has been restricted, regular voice calling services will continue without interruption. Authorities have also exempted banking-related SMS alerts, mobile recharge services, and broadband or leased-line internet connections used by households and businesses.
The government said these exemptions were introduced to minimise inconvenience to residents and ensure that essential communication and financial services remain operational.
Preventive Measure Ahead of Operation
The order has been issued under provisions of the Telecommunications Act, 2023, and related service suspension rules. Officials stated that the restrictions are temporary and aimed solely at maintaining peace and ensuring smooth execution of the planned demolition activity.
