In a significant development in the Pune illicit liquor deaths case, the Maharashtra State Excise Department has suspended 13 of its officials over alleged negligence and administrative lapses linked to the incident.
According to State Excise Department Superintendent Atul Kanade, the suspended officials include three Excise Inspectors, six Sub-Inspectors, and four other department personnel. The action comes as authorities face growing scrutiny over the circumstances that allowed the illegal liquor network to operate.
The suspensions are part of the department’s internal review following the deaths caused by the consumption of suspected illicit liquor in Pune. Officials said accountability is being fixed at various levels as the investigation progresses.
The department has launched a detailed inquiry to determine whether any negligence, failure in monitoring, or dereliction of duty contributed to the tragedy. Further action may follow depending on the findings of the probe.
