Illegal Cough Syrup Factory Busted in Bhopal, STF Seizes Massive Stock Worth ₹1.5 Crore

Midnight Operation Uncovers Suspected Drug Manufacturing Setup

In a major operation against the illegal drug trade, the Madhya Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has dismantled a suspected illicit cough syrup manufacturing unit allegedly operating from a residential colony in Bhopal. Officials recovered tens of thousands of bottles of a suspected intoxicating cough syrup along with machinery, packaging material and other equipment used in production.

The action was carried out in the Gandhi Nagar area after investigators received intelligence inputs regarding the alleged manufacture and distribution of unlicensed cough syrup.

Three-Hour Search Reveals Large-Scale Operation

Officials said the raid began shortly after midnight and continued for nearly three hours. STF teams, assisted by officers from the state Drug Department, searched the premises and allegedly discovered a fully functional setup being used to manufacture and package cough syrup under a local brand name.

Large quantities of filled bottles, empty containers, labels, cartons and production equipment were seized during the operation. Authorities estimate the total value of the recovered stock and machinery at approximately ₹1.5 crore.

Seven Held, Including Juveniles

Seven individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the case, including three juveniles. Investigators are currently questioning those detained to determine their exact roles in the alleged operation.

Samples of the seized syrup have been sent for forensic and laboratory examination to establish whether the product contained restricted or narcotic substances.

Investigation Expands Beyond Bhopal

Officials believe the operation may be linked to a larger distribution network. Investigators are now examining how raw materials were sourced and where the finished products were supplied.

The STF is also trying to determine whether the alleged network extended beyond Bhopal into other districts or neighbouring states.

Property Owner Under Scanner

Authorities said the premises where the factory was allegedly operating belong to a local property owner whose role is now being examined. Investigators are attempting to establish whether the owner was aware of the activities taking place on the property.

A criminal case has been registered and further action is expected as the investigation progresses. Officials indicated that additional arrests may follow based on evidence gathered during the probe.

An STF official said the agency is committed to identifying every individual involved in the alleged illegal trade and ensuring strict legal action against those found responsible.
