Fadnavis Responds to Rising Onion Price Debate
Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday defended the Maharashtra government’s handling of onion prices and hit out at opposition leaders over criticism linked to inflation and farmer issues.
Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis said the government has already fixed the onion price at ₹15 per kilogram and discussions with the Centre would soon take place regarding the matter.
“The price of onions has been fixed at Rs 15 per kg. We are going to hold a meeting with the central government,” Fadnavis said.
‘Some People Are Creating Photo Opportunities’
The Maharashtra Chief Minister accused certain political leaders of trying to gain attention by turning the onion price issue into a political campaign.
“Some people are playing politics and creating photo opportunities,” he remarked while responding to opposition criticism over rising prices and farmer distress.
Fadnavis also attacked previous governments over inflation, saying onion prices had surged during their tenure as well.
“The price of onions during their tenure was no secret,” he added.
Fadnavis Targets Praniti Shinde
During the interaction, Fadnavis also reacted to recent remarks made by Congress MP Praniti Shinde regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I consider her intelligent, but what can I say about someone who expresses such views about Modi?” Fadnavis said.
The comments have further intensified the political battle between the BJP-led Maharashtra government and the opposition over inflation, fuel prices and agricultural issues.
