IPL 2026 Playoffs Set: RCB Face GT In Qualifier 1, SRH Meet RR In Eliminator

Mumbai: After weeks of high-pressure finishes, stunning turnarounds and heartbreaking exits, the IPL 2026 league stage has finally produced its final four. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals have survived the chaos of one of the most competitive IPL seasons in recent memory and now move into the tournament’s decisive phase — the playoffs.

With the margin for error now completely gone, the race for the IPL trophy enters its most unforgiving chapter.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take on Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 at Dharamsala on May 26, with a direct place in the IPL 2026 final at stake. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals will meet a day later in the Eliminator at Mullanpur, where defeat will immediately end their campaign.

For RCB and Gujarat Titans, the playoffs are a reward for consistency across the league stage. For Hyderabad and Rajasthan, qualification itself has been a story of survival, momentum and resilience built over weeks of pressure cricket.

Now, every over could define an entire season.

RCB Arrive With Balance And Belief

Royal Challengers Bengaluru head into the playoffs looking more complete than at any stage in recent years. Unlike previous seasons where the team often depended heavily on a handful of star performers, RCB’s IPL 2026 campaign has been shaped by collective contributions across departments.

Virat Kohli once again emerged as the emotional and batting backbone of the side, anchoring crucial innings while maintaining intensity throughout the season. Captain Rajat Patidar brought calm leadership and attacking intent under pressure, while Phil Salt’s explosive starts at the top frequently shifted momentum inside the powerplay itself. Devdutt Padikkal added stability through the middle overs, allowing Bengaluru’s aggressive hitters freedom around him.

However, RCB’s biggest transformation this season has arguably come through their bowling attack.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar consistently provided early breakthroughs with disciplined swing bowling, while Josh Hazlewood developed into the side’s strike weapon during crunch moments. Krunal Pandya’s all-round influence added vital balance, giving Bengaluru flexibility with both bat and ball.

For the first time in several seasons, RCB enter the knockout stage appearing tactically balanced rather than overly dependent on individual brilliance — something fans will hope finally translates into a long-awaited IPL title.

Gujarat Titans Remain One Of The Most Complete Sides

Despite narrowly missing out on the top spot, Gujarat Titans have arguably looked like one of the tournament’s most settled and disciplined teams throughout IPL 2026.

Under Shubman Gill’s leadership, GT combined aggressive batting with calm execution and a versatile bowling attack. Gill himself continued to lead from the front, while Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler provided consistency and attacking depth at the top of the order.

Their ability to dominate inside the powerplay often placed opposition teams immediately under pressure.

Gujarat’s bowling unit has been equally decisive. Rashid Khan once again delivered control and breakthroughs in crucial phases, reinforcing his importance as the side’s tactical centerpiece. Mohammed Siraj brought aggression and wicket-taking ability with the new ball, while Kagiso Rabada added pace and intimidation during middle and death overs.

Prasidh Krishna quietly emerged as one of Gujarat’s most dependable bowlers this season, repeatedly delivering disciplined spells in pressure situations.

With balance across both batting and bowling departments, Gujarat Titans enter the playoffs carrying the confidence of a side capable of adapting to any match situation.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Fearless Formula

Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Rajasthan Royals in a high-pressure IPL 2026 Eliminator.

Sunrisers Hyderabad produced one of the strongest second-half recoveries of the season to secure third place and enter the playoffs with momentum on their side.

SRH built their campaign around relentless attacking cricket. Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen and Abhishek Sharma consistently dismantled bowling attacks with aggressive strokeplay, while Ishan Kishan added further firepower and experience to the middle order.

Under Pat Cummins, Hyderabad embraced a fearless identity that made them one of the tournament’s most dangerous batting sides. Whether chasing massive targets or setting imposing totals, SRH repeatedly showed the ability to overwhelm opponents quickly.

Their bowling attack also evolved steadily through the season. Cummins contributed important breakthroughs alongside calm leadership, while emerging talent Sakib Hussain impressed during crucial phases with disciplined spells under pressure.

However, the Eliminator format leaves no room for recovery.

One poor performance, one failed chase or one difficult spell could instantly end Hyderabad’s title hopes despite their explosive season.

Rajasthan Royals Fight Their Way Into The Top Four

Rajasthan Royals secured the final playoff berth after a tense race for the top four.

Rajasthan Royals secured the final playoff berth after surviving a fierce battle involving several mid-table contenders during the closing weeks of the league stage.

Captain Riyan Parag led from the front in key moments, while Yashasvi Jaiswal remained central to Rajasthan’s batting plans with aggressive starts at the top. Youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi emerged as one of the breakout stories of IPL 2026, bringing attacking confidence and composure beyond his age.

Dhruv Jurel contributed several valuable finishing knocks during pressure situations, while Dasun Shanaka provided useful balance with both bat and ball.

Rajasthan’s bowling attack delivered important performances despite occasional inconsistency. Jofra Archer added pace and wicket-taking threat, Ravi Bishnoi controlled the middle overs effectively with his variations, while Ravindra Jadeja’s experience strengthened the side through economical spells, sharp fielding and lower-order contributions.

Although Rajasthan struggled for consistency at times, they repeatedly found ways to win crucial matches when qualification appeared uncertain.

Now, the Royals face the difficult challenge of winning three consecutive knockout matches if they are to lift the IPL trophy.

A High-Pressure Finish Awaits

Each of the four remaining teams enters the playoffs carrying a distinct identity.

RCB will look to convert a dominant campaign into silverware. Gujarat Titans will depend on their balance and composure. Sunrisers Hyderabad will continue backing their fearless attacking approach, while Rajasthan Royals will hope momentum and belief carry them through the knockout stage.

The IPL 2026 final is scheduled to be played on May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where one team will ultimately complete the journey from league-stage survival to championship glory.

Until then, the playoffs promise high-intensity cricket, sold-out stadiums, enormous expectations and the kind of pressure that defines careers and seasons alike.
