Azam Khan Sentenced To 2 Years Jail Over 2019 Election Speech, Fine Also Imposed

Court Convicts Samajwadi Party Leader In Model Code Violation Case

Rampur: Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan has been sentenced to two years in jail by a court in connection with controversial remarks made during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign.

Along with the prison sentence, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the veteran politician. The verdict marks another legal setback for Azam Khan, who has been facing multiple cases in recent years.

The matter relates to statements allegedly made by Khan during an election rally in 2019, where his comments about district administration officials had triggered sharp political reactions and controversy.

Controversial Speech Had Sparked Political Debate

According to case records, videos of the speech had gone viral on social media during the Lok Sabha campaign period, leading to criticism from political opponents and complaints regarding violation of the election code of conduct.

During the rally, Azam Khan allegedly made remarks targeting administrative officials while referring to political developments linked to alliance politics in Uttar Pradesh.

Following the controversy, authorities registered a complaint against him under provisions related to election conduct violations, after which the matter reached the MP-MLA court.

After hearing the case, the court delivered its verdict and sentenced the Samajwadi Party leader to two years of imprisonment.

Azam Khan Currently Lodged In Rampur Jail

Officials said Azam Khan is presently lodged in jail in Rampur in connection with other ongoing legal matters.

The latest conviction adds to a growing list of court cases involving the senior politician and members of his family.

Earlier Conviction In PAN Card Case

Earlier this year, a sessions court in Rampur had also dismissed appeals filed by Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam Khan in another criminal case.

The case involved allegations that both father and son had obtained multiple PAN cards in 2019.

In November 2025, the MP-MLA court had convicted both leaders in the matter and sentenced them to seven years in prison along with monetary penalties.

The latest ruling is expected to intensify political and legal discussions surrounding the Samajwadi Party leader, whose legal troubles have continued over the past several years.
