ATS Detains Pune Man in Connection With Hospital Explosive Device Case
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad has detained a man in connection with the recovery of an improvised explosive device (IED) found inside a private hospital in Pune’s Hadapsar area earlier this week, officials confirmed on Friday.
According to investigators, the accused, believed to be in his late twenties and a resident of Pune’s Manjari locality, had gone missing after the incident surfaced on Wednesday evening. He was later tracked down and detained from Nagpur during a coordinated operation carried out by multiple investigating agencies.
Timer Box Recovered During ATS Searches
Officials involved in the investigation said searches conducted at the suspect’s premises led to the recovery of an empty timer box resembling the mechanism allegedly used in the explosive device found at the hospital.
“We found an empty box of a timer used in the IED at his shop. We are questioning him and trying to ascertain whether any other person was involved in the conspiracy,” an ATS officer said.
Investigators are now attempting to determine whether the suspect acted alone or if more individuals were involved in planning the incident.
Panic Erupted After Suspicious Object Found in Hospital Washroom
The incident triggered panic on Wednesday evening after hospital staff discovered a suspicious object inside a washroom at Usha Kiran Hospital in Hadapsar.
Following the alert, teams from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad reached the hospital premises and examined the object before safely neutralising it.
Preliminary findings indicated that the object was a low-intensity improvised explosive device equipped with a timer mechanism.
Multiple Agencies Launch Joint Probe
A joint investigation involving the Pune Police, Crime Branch officials and the ATS is currently underway to establish the motive behind the incident and assess whether it was linked to a broader conspiracy.
Security agencies are also examining the suspect’s background, contacts and possible links while forensic teams continue analysing materials recovered during the probe.
