NEET UG 2026 Exam Officially Scrapped Over Integrity Concerns
The National Testing Agency has announced the cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3, following inputs received during an ongoing investigation coordinated with central agencies and law enforcement authorities. The decision was taken on May 12 with the approval of the Government of India, citing concerns related to the integrity and credibility of the examination process.
Re-Examination to Be Conducted on Fresh Dates
The agency confirmed that the medical entrance exam will now be conducted again on revised dates, which will be announced separately through official channels. Authorities stated that while the decision may cause inconvenience to lakhs of students and parents, maintaining public trust in the examination system was the top priority.
Case Referred to Central Agencies and CBI Inquiry Ordered
According to officials, examination-related issues were first referred to central agencies on May 8 for independent verification. After reviewing inputs from investigative agencies, the NTA concluded that the existing exam process “could not be allowed to stand.” The Government of India has also ordered a detailed inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation into allegations linked to the conduct of the examination.
No Fresh Registration; Relief for Candidates
In relief for students, the NTA clarified that candidates will not be required to register again for the re-conducted exam. Existing registrations, exam centres, and candidature details will remain valid. No additional fee will be charged, and previously paid fees will be refunded. The re-exam will be conducted using NTA’s internal systems and resources.
Revised Schedule to Be Announced Soon
The agency has stated that new exam dates and admit card details will be released shortly on official platforms. Candidates have been advised to avoid misinformation circulating on social media and rely only on verified updates from the NTA.
