India And China Hold Key Defence Talks On SCO Sidelines In Bishkek
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held an important bilateral meeting with Chinese Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun on Tuesday in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meeting.
The high-level interaction focused on regional security concerns, maintaining stability along the border, and improving military communication between the two neighbouring nations.
The meeting is being seen as another diplomatic effort by India and China to stabilise relations after years of military and political tensions.
Border Stability And Military Communication Among Top Priorities
During the talks, both sides discussed the need to strengthen defence communication channels and maintain peace in sensitive border areas.
The leaders are understood to have reviewed the broader security environment in the region while stressing the importance of dialogue and continued engagement between military establishments.
The meeting gains significance as India and China continue efforts to rebuild trust after prolonged tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
India-China Relations Still Recovering After Ladakh Clash
Relations between India and China had sharply deteriorated after the deadly military clash in eastern Ladakh in 2020, which marked one of the most serious confrontations between the two countries in recent decades.
Since then, both nations have held multiple rounds of military and diplomatic talks aimed at reducing tensions and restoring normalcy along the border.

Rajnath Singh In Bishkek For SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting
Rajnath Singh arrived in Bishkek on Monday to participate in the SCO Defence Ministers’ meeting, where he was received by senior officials from Kyrgyzstan.
Apart from multilateral discussions, the Indian Defence Minister is also holding bilateral meetings with defence counterparts from SCO member nations to strengthen strategic cooperation and address common security concerns.
The summit is providing an important platform for member states to discuss regional defence priorities amid rising global instability.
India Reaffirms Zero Tolerance Against Terrorism
Ahead of the summit, Rajnath Singh reiterated India’s commitment to global peace and its firm stance against terrorism and extremism.
In a message posted before his departure, the Defence Minister said India would continue to advocate peace while stressing a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and extremism.
India is expected to underline these priorities during discussions with SCO members as regional security threats remain a major concern.

This year’s SCO Defence Ministers’ meeting is taking place against the backdrop of growing geopolitical tensions, including the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
