In a major crackdown amid rising gas shortages, the State Special Task Force (STF) carried out a raid in the South Civil Lines area of Roorkee and seized a massive stock of 101 illegally stored LPG cylinders, exposing a suspected black market network.
According to officials, most of the recovered cylinders were linked to a company named “Indra Gas.” The operation was conducted following intelligence inputs about illegal hoarding and unauthorized sale of domestic gas cylinders at inflated prices.
Illegal Stockpile Unearthed in STF Action
The raid was conducted under the Roorkee jurisdiction after authorities received specific information that certain individuals were hoarding LPG cylinders and diverting them into the black market. These cylinders were allegedly being sold to hotels and dhaba operators at higher rates, taking advantage of the ongoing supply shortage.
Senior Superintendent of Police (STF) Ajay Singh confirmed that the cylinders were recovered from a single premises, raising serious concerns about organized illegal storage and distribution
Food Department Joins Investigation
Following the seizure, officials from the Food and Civil Supplies Department were called to the spot to examine the legality of the stock and trace its origin. Authorities are now investigating whether the cylinders were diverted from domestic supply chains and identifying those involved in the illegal trade.
The crackdown comes at a time when many regions are facing gas supply issues, making such hoarding activities even more critical from a law enforcement perspective.

Initial findings suggest that the illegally stored cylinders were part of a broader network supplying gas to commercial establishments through unauthorized channels. This not only violates regulations but also deprives common households of essential cooking fuel.
