The government on Tuesday reassured citizens that there is no shortage of fuel or LPG in the country, even as concerns rise due to the ongoing West Asia conflict. Officials urged people to avoid panic buying and not fall for rumours spreading across regions.

What has the government said?
During an inter-ministerial briefing, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, confirmed that all retail fuel outlets across the country are functioning normally.

She stated that sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel are available and there is no disruption in supply at present. Citizens were advised to remain calm and avoid unnecessary rush at fuel stations.

Why are people worried about fuel supply?
The concerns have emerged due to the ongoing tensions in West Asia, which have impacted global energy markets and shipping routes. However, the government clarified that India’s supply chain remains stable and well-managed.

What is the situation with LPG supply?
Officials acknowledged that LPG supply has seen some impact due to geopolitical tensions. However, Sujata Sharma assured that multiple cargo shipments have already been arranged to meet demand.

She added that no shortages have been reported at LPG distributorships and deliveries are continuing normally, despite a temporary surge in bookings caused by panic buying.

What steps are being taken to ensure supply?
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has directed City Gas Distribution companies to provide PNG connections to key institutions like schools, hostels, and community kitchens within five days wherever pipeline infrastructure exists.

Domestic PNG supply, officials confirmed, remains uninterrupted.

What about shipments and transport?
Rajesh Sinha, Special Secretary in the Shipping Ministry, confirmed that Indian ships and sailors in the Gulf region are safe, with no incidents reported in the last 24 hours.

He also revealed that two Indian LPG carriers — Pine Gas and Jag Vasant — have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz and are on their way to India with large LPG supplies.

The ships are expected to reach New Mangalore Port and Kandla later this week, further strengthening fuel availability.

What is the overall situation?
Despite global tensions, the government has maintained that fuel and gas supplies in India remain stable. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are taking proactive steps to avoid any disruption.

The government’s message is clear: there is no need for panic, and essential fuel supplies are secure for the country.
