In a major relief for thousands of students studying in the Gulf region, the Central Board of Secondary Education has officially postponed the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations scheduled for March 5 and March 6, 2026, in several Middle East countries.

The decision comes after a detailed review of the current regional situation, which has been marked by growing tensions and uncertainty in parts of West Asia.

Exams Deferred in Seven Countries

The postponement applies to CBSE-affiliated schools operating in:

  • Bahrain
  • Iran
  • Kuwait
  • Oman
  • Qatar
  • Saudi Arabia
  • United Arab Emirates

These nations host a large number of Indian students enrolled in CBSE schools. The March 5 and 6 examinations were part of the ongoing 2026 board exam schedule.

Why Did CBSE Take This Decision?

According to the official communication, CBSE cited the “prevailing situation in parts of the Middle East” as the key reason behind the postponement.

The board made it clear that student safety is its top priority. Conducting crucial public examinations during uncertain and sensitive conditions could create logistical and security challenges. Therefore, authorities decided that postponement was the most responsible step at this time.

Importantly, the exams have been postponed — not cancelled.

Revised Dates to Be Announced Soon

CBSE has stated that fresh dates for the postponed papers will be announced after another review of the ground situation. The board is closely monitoring developments and will coordinate with Indian diplomatic missions and local school administrations before finalising new schedules.
