Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reiterated that India remains firmly committed to peace and diplomatic solutions amid escalating tensions in West Asia, particularly the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict.

Speaking after high-level bilateral talks in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said, “The current situation in West Asia is a matter of deep concern for us. India supports the resolution of all disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.”

Meeting With Canadian Prime Minister at Hyderabad House

Modi’s remarks came after delegation-level discussions with Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, at Hyderabad House in the national capital. Hyderabad House is a key diplomatic venue traditionally used for hosting visiting heads of state and government during official engagements.

The two leaders reviewed bilateral ties and also exchanged views on pressing global developments, including the intensifying Iran-Israel conflict and its regional implications.

Highlighting the role of democratic cooperation, Modi said that when two democracies stand together, their collective voice for peace becomes stronger — a message seen as reinforcing multilateral dialogue during global uncertainty.

Concerns Over Escalation and Civilian Safety

The Prime Minister’s comments follow recent statements by United States President Donald Trump, who over the weekend announced the start of what he described as “major combat operations” against Iran. International media reports and official briefings from the region have indicated significant casualties and infrastructure damage, although precise figures continue to vary.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also issued an official statement reiterating India’s call for restraint and peaceful engagement, while closely monitoring the evolving situation.

Safety of Indian Citizens a Priority

Modi emphasised that the safety and security of Indian nationals in the region remains a top priority. The Gulf and West Asia region is home to an estimated 8–9 million Indians, making stability there critically important for New Delhi.

He stated that India is in touch with relevant governments and international partners to ensure the well-being of its diaspora and to respond swiftly to any emergency developments.

India’s Diplomatic Approach

India has consistently advocated for negotiations over military escalation and has maintained open diplomatic channels with all key stakeholders in the region. Officials indicate that New Delhi will continue engaging constructively at bilateral and multilateral forums to support de-escalation efforts.

Further diplomatic engagements are expected in the coming days.
