Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has come out strongly in support of the Youth Congress after the arrest of its leaders during a protest, saying that peaceful dissent is part of India’s democratic soul and cannot be crushed through force.

In a post shared on X, Rahul Gandhi said that protest is not only a right but a legacy deeply rooted in India’s history and freedom movement.

Full Statement Shared by Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi wrote: “Peaceful protest is our historic heritage. It is in our blood and is the democratic right of every Indian.

I am proud of my brave lion-like colleagues from the Youth Congress, who fearlessly raised their voice in the national interest against a ‘COMPROMISED PM’.

In the trade deal signed with the United States, India’s national interests have been compromised. This agreement will harm our farmers and the textile industry and will hand over our data to the United States.

The arrest of Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib and other IYC colleagues for bringing this truth before the country is proof of authoritarian thinking and cowardice.

The Congress party and I stand firmly with our brave companions. Showing truth to those in power is not a crime, it is patriotism.

Do not be afraid — truth and the Constitution are with us.”

Strong Attack on Trade Deal

Rahul Gandhi alleged that the India–US trade agreement weakens India’s economic interests. He warned that farmers and the textile sector could suffer long-term damage and claimed that sensitive national data may be exposed.

Arrests Called Authoritarian

Referring to the detention of Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib and other members, Gandhi said the action reflects fear of the truth. He asserted that questioning the government and informing citizens is a democratic responsibility.

Congress Stands Firm

Gandhi concluded by saying the Congress party will continue to stand with Youth Congress workers and oppose what he described as attempts to silence dissent. He urged party members to remain fearless and committed to constitutional values.
