A SpiceJet aircraft carrying around 150 passengers was forced to return to Delhi shortly after take-off on Tuesday after the crew noticed a technical issue in one of the engines. The flight, which had taken off from Indira Gandhi International Airport, was heading to Leh when the problem was detected.

Emergency Declared as Precaution

India TV Sources said the pilots decided to play safe and turn the aircraft back to Delhi. An emergency was declared at the airport to ensure a smooth and quick landing, with fire and medical teams kept on standby as part of standard safety procedures.

Safe Landing, No Injuries Reported

The Boeing 737 aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers were deboarded without any difficulty. An airline spokesperson confirmed that the flight returned due to a technical issue and said routine checks will now be carried out by the maintenance team before the aircraft is cleared for further operations.

Airline Focused on Fleet Expansion

The incident comes at a time when SpiceJet is working to strengthen its operations. The airline recently said it plans to increase its fleet size to around 60 aircraft by bringing grounded planes back into service and adding leased aircraft in phases.

According to the airline, its domestic market share has shown steady improvement in recent months, supported by a sharp increase in capacity. SpiceJet is aiming to significantly scale up its operations, with plans to more than double capacity by the winter of 2026.
