Delhi: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s growing influence in artificial intelligence, presenting the nation as a leader in ethical and inclusive AI development. Speaking at Bharat Mandapam during Day 4 of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Modi underscored that India’s AI strategy is guided by the principle of “happiness for all, welfare for all.”

Unveiling the MANAV AI Vision

The Prime Minister introduced India’s MANAV vision, an acronym that reflects India’s approach to AI development:

  • M – Moral and ethical systems
  • A – Accountable governance
  • N – National sovereignty
  • A – Accessible and inclusive technology
  • V – Valid and legitimate applications

“AI should be guided by ethical principles,” Modi said. “The MANAV vision will ensure that artificial intelligence becomes a tool for human welfare and a force for good in the 21st century.”

Focus on Inclusivity and Data Rights

Modi stressed that India’s AI approach is designed to democratize technology, making it accessible to all while protecting data privacy, Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, ensuring AI applications are designed with consent, minimal data usage, and secure storage as core principles. He emphasized the importance of using AI for social welfare, economic growth, and creating opportunities for the country’s youth.

India’s Tech Talent and Global Role

Highlighting India’s unique position in the global AI ecosystem, Modi said the country is home to the world’s largest young population and a rapidly expanding technology workforce.
