New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that India’s National Song, ‘Vande Mataram’, will now be sung or played with all six of its original stanzas. This move restores the four stanzas that were removed by the Congress in 1937.

According to the new guidelines, the National Song will always be sung before the National Anthem at official events. Audiences are expected to stand during the song, except during newsreels or documentaries in cinemas.

The Ministry has directed that ‘Vande Mataram’ be played at civilian award ceremonies, such as the Padma Awards, and at all events attended by the President, during both arrival and departure. Mass singing of the song is encouraged, and schools are urged to include it in their programs to promote respect for the National Song, the National Anthem, and the National Flag.

The restored stanzas include praises of the Motherland’s strength, knowledge, and virtue, written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in Sanskritised Bengali. These stanzas highlight Durga-like power, purity, and prosperity of the nation, making the song a complete tribute to India.
