Mumbai: A political firestorm erupted on Sunday after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLC Amol Mitkari made startling claims while questioning the circumstances surrounding the accidental death of the state’s late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, suggesting the possibility of sabotage involving hypnosis and even a “suicide bomber.”
Speaking to the media, Mitkari expressed deep suspicion over the aircraft operated by VSR company in which Ajit Pawar was travelling, raising concerns about last-minute changes in pilots and the company’s past record. He alleged that pilots assigned to the aircraft were changed twice and claimed that despite the firm being blacklisted for a year, the same aircraft was allotted for Ajit Pawar’s journey on January 28.
Mitkari further pointed to what he described as unusual insurance arrangements made shortly before the crash. According to him, in December 2025, VSR company allegedly secured an insurance cover of Rs 50 crore for each of its pilots, a move he said warrants serious scrutiny.
Raising a series of pointed questions, Mitkari said, “If a Rs 50 crore insurance policy was taken out, and the pilot was changed at the last minute — was he hypnotised? Was he offered a bribe? In many places, suicide bombers are used via hypnosis. Similarly, Ajmal Kasab was sent for a terrorist attack, and a similar method was used during the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. Was the pilot sent after being hypnotised?”
He also questioned the pilot’s actions during the flight, particularly the absence of a distress signal. “This is a major question because the pilot never issued a ‘MAYDAY’ call. After takeoff, he could have reached Pune in a short time, but he didn’t. Therefore, we have huge suspicions regarding the VSR company. Did they force the pilot to commit this act after securing a Rs 50 crore insurance? This must be investigated!” Mitkari said.
Adding to the political significance of the moment, Mitkari drew attention to an upcoming press briefing by Karjat Jamkhed MLA Rohit Pawar, a family member of the deceased leader. “The eyes of Maharashtra and the entire country are on his press conference. I expect many things will be covered in the briefing on 10th February. Whatever evidence he has, he will present it. Therefore, I believe it is extremely important to watch Rohit Pawar’s press conference,” he added.
