Jajpur (Odisha): A potential rail mishap was averted in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Thursday after a long-distance passenger train experienced a partial derailment near Jakhapura railway station. Three coaches of the Chennai Central–New Jalpaiguri Express moved off the tracks, triggering concern among passengers and railway authorities.

The train was travelling along the eastern corridor after departing from Bhubaneswar and heading towards Kolkata when the incident occurred. Officials said the derailment did not lead to any casualties, and all passengers on board were confirmed to be safe.

Railway authorities rushed emergency response teams to the site from nearby Bhadrak soon after receiving information about the incident. Senior officials present at the location said there was no visible structural damage to the affected coaches, allowing passengers to remain calm during evacuation and inspection procedures.

Restoration work on the impacted railway section began immediately. Engineering and technical teams were deployed to realign the coaches and clear the track to ensure minimal disruption to rail traffic on the busy route. Officials stated that efforts were being made to resume normal train operations at the earliest.

Railway authorities also said that safety protocols were activated promptly and the situation was kept under constant surveillance to prevent secondary disruptions. While preliminary assessments ruled out major damage, the exact reason behind the derailment is yet to be determined.
