Mumbai: A devastating tragedy has shaken Maharashtra after officials announced that all passengers travelling in a small aircraft that crashed during landing near Baramati have died. The aircraft was reportedly carrying Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar along with other passengers when it went down on Wednesday morning.

According to information released by authorities involved in the emergency response, the aircraft crashed while attempting to land in the Baramati region of Pune district around 8:45 am. The plane reportedly veered off course and slammed into an open field, triggering a massive fire that left the aircraft completely destroyed.

Senior officials at the crash site stated that none of the occupants survived the impact. Ajit Pawar, who was scheduled to attend a public rally later in the day ahead of key local body elections, was among those believed to be travelling in the aircraft at the time of the crash.

Visuals from the site showed burning debris, twisted metal, and emergency teams working amid thick smoke. Fire brigades, police units, and medical teams rushed to the spot within minutes, but officials indicated that the severity of the crash left no scope for rescue.

Security has been tightened across Baramati and surrounding areas following the announcement. Political leaders from across party lines expressed shock as news of the fatal crash spread rapidly, plunging the state’s political landscape into uncertainty.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and state authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation into the cause of the crash. Initial focus is likely to be on technical failure, weather conditions, and landing procedures. An official detailed statement is awaited.
