Mumbai: A gas cylinder explosion in Malad (West) injured at least six people on Tuesday morning, creating panic among local residents. The blast occurred around 9:25 am at a chawl near Bharat Mata School in Malvani, reportedly caused by a suspected leak from a domestic gas cylinder.

All six injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by residents, according to civic officials. Fire brigade teams and emergency response units quickly reached the site to secure the area and prevent further damage.

The incident comes just a day after another fire broke out in a residential high-rise, intensifying safety concerns in Mumbai’s crowded neighborhoods. On Monday, a balcony fire erupted on the ninth floor of the 21-story Tapasya building in SVP Nagar near Four Bungalows. Witnesses suggested the fire may have been triggered by a bursting firecracker, though officials confirmed that it remained confined to the balcony. No injuries were reported in that incident.

Civic authorities have urged residents to exercise caution while handling gas cylinders and firecrackers, emphasizing the importance of safety measures in high-density urban areas. “These incidents highlight the need for regular checks and vigilance to prevent accidents in residential buildings,” a municipal officer stated.
