Delhi: The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) on Monday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take immediate action to protect Indian medical students caught in a volatile situation in Bangladesh. The appeal comes amid rising anti-India sentiments and public unrest in the country, leaving students and their families deeply concerned for their safety.
In a formal letter to the Prime Minister, AIMSA highlighted that Indian students studying in Bangladesh are experiencing unsafe living conditions, leading to anxiety, fear, and emotional distress. “Their security is vulnerable, and the uncertainty is taking a heavy toll on the students and their families in India. These students rely on the Government of India to ensure their safety during such crises,” the letter read.
AIMSA urged the Prime Minister to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian diplomatic missions in Bangladesh to provide immediate on-ground support. The association stressed the need for timely communication with students and their families, as well as urgent protective measures to safeguard their lives, dignity, and future.
The appeal coincides with heightened political tensions in Bangladesh following the assassination of Sharif Osman Hadi, a key figure in last year’s July Uprising, who was shot in Dhaka earlier this month and later died after being airlifted for treatment. Hadi’s death has sparked nationwide protests, adding to the unrest that has unsettled Indian students in the country.
