“Learn Hindi in a Month or Leave!”: Viral Video Shows BJP Councillor Renu Chaudhary Threatening South African Coach in Delhi Park

Delhi: A controversy has erupted in Delhi after a video surfaced online showing a BJP councillor from East Delhi confronting a foreign national in a public park over language issues. The clip, which has gone viral on social media, has triggered widespread criticism and sparked a debate on language sensitivity and abuse of authority.

In the video, the councillor, identified as Renu Chaudhary from the Patparganj area, is seen angrily questioning a South African football coach who has been training local children for several years. She appears upset over the fact that the coach does not speak Hindi and repeatedly demands to know why he has not learned the language despite living in India.

The footage shows the councillor issuing what many viewers described as a threat, warning that the coach would be removed from using the park if he failed to learn Hindi within a month. She is also heard making remarks suggesting suspicion over the coach’s presence and asking others to keep an eye on him, comments that have drawn sharp criticism online.

As the video spread, social media users reacted strongly, accusing the councillor of intimidation and misuse of power. Many described her behaviour as aggressive and unnecessary, questioning why a foreign citizen contributing positively to the community was being targeted.

Several users pointed out that Indians living and working abroad are rarely forced to immediately learn local languages, and argued that such demands create a hostile environment. Others linked the incident to ongoing debates around language imposition in different parts of India, saying such actions could deepen social divisions.

Renu Chaudhary is a councillor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, representing Ward 197 in East Delhi. She was elected in the 2022 civic polls and also holds a leadership position in the BJP’s Delhi women’s wing. As of now, there has been no official response from her or the party regarding the incident.
