Delhi: Crisis-hit airline IndiGo continues to battle massive operational disruptions across the country, with the carrier announcing on Monday that its Crisis Management Group (CMG) has been holding daily reviews to stabilise operations. The airline said the CMG is closely tracking every aspect of the ongoing breakdown, from flight schedules to baggage delays, and identifying immediate steps needed to restore normalcy.

IndiGo officials stated that the group’s top priorities include “restoring 100 percent operational integrity, ensuring the timely flow of accurate information, expediting refunds and rescheduling, and swiftly returning passenger baggage.” The airline added, “We continue to work around the clock to bring the network back to full capacity.”

The statement came on a day when the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted IndiGo’s Accountable Manager and CEO a one-time, 24-hour extension to respond to a show-cause notice issued on December 6 over widespread disruptions and several instances of non-compliance.

In their request dated December 7, IndiGo officials sought more time, citing the scale of the airline’s nationwide network and unavoidable operational challenges triggered by disruptions at multiple airports. After assessment, the regulator extended the deadline only until 6 PM on December 8, making it clear that no further extension would be allowed. The DGCA warned that failure to submit a “complete and comprehensive” reply within the extended timeline would result in ex parte action based solely on existing records.

While the regulatory pressure mounts, the airline continues to face passenger frustration on the ground. According to the Civil Aviation Ministry, IndiGo has cancelled 500 flights, while planning to operate 1,802 services to 137 destinations on Monday. The airline is also working through a massive baggage backlog, having delivered 4,500 of the 9,000 stranded bags, with the remaining expected to be cleared within the next 36 hours.

Refunds meanwhile have surged to unprecedented levels.

The ministry revealed that 5,86,705 PNRs between December 1–7 have been cancelled and refunded, amounting to ₹569.65 crore. Additionally, 9,55,591 PNRs from November 21–December 7 have been refunded, totalling ₹827 crore.
