Srinagar: The investigation into the Anantnag Government Medical College terror link case has widened significantly, with police uncovering a massive cache of arms and explosives outside Jammu and Kashmir. According to officials, the J&K Police, in a joint operation with Haryana Police, recovered two AK-47 rifles and nearly 350 kilograms of explosives from a hideout in Faridabad, Haryana — a major breakthrough in the ongoing case involving detained doctors from the medical institution.

Sources said the recovery was made based on critical inputs provided by a second doctor detained in connection with the case. This comes just days after the arrest of Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather, from whose personal locker at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag an AK-47 rifle was earlier seized.

Investigators have revealed that three doctors are under the scanner for suspected links to terror organisations, possibly Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind, an offshoot of al-Qaeda in Kashmir. Two of the doctors — from Anantnag and Pulwama — have already been taken into custody, while the third suspect remains absconding, triggering a coordinated manhunt across the Union Territory.

Officials confirmed that multiple sections under the Arms Act (7/25) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) — Sections 13, 28, 38, and 39 — have been invoked. The Srinagar Police and the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) Anantnag are jointly leading the probe to trace the network and identify potential collaborators outside J&K.

An officer privy to the investigation said, “We are following strong leads that point to a wider network of radical operatives. The nature of the explosives and weaponry indicates the possibility of a planned strike that was fortunately foiled.”
