Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah announced that Agha Mehmood, representing the National Conference, filed his nomination papers for the Budgam by-election today. Speaking to the media, Abdullah emphasized the party’s full support for their candidate, saying, “The entire organisation stands behind Agha Mehmood. From today, we will present our message to the people of Budgam and hope that on the day the results are declared, Agha Mehmood will successfully represent the people of Budgam in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly with a landslide victory.”

Abdullah also elaborated on the party’s strategic timing, noting that while other parties’ candidates also filed their nominations today, the NC deliberately waited. “We were waiting for others (to announce their candidates). We were in no hurry. Almost all other candidates from other parties filed their nomination today. But everyone was waiting for each other… This was a part of our strategy,” he added.

The Budgam by-election has gained significant attention as parties mobilize support and present their candidates. With the National Conference backing Agha Mehmood and emphasizing a coordinated campaign, the party hopes to retain its stronghold in the constituency.
